Module 1: Explain the concept of motivation and its importance in enhancing performance levels.

Motivation is any influence by management which encourages or awakens the efforts of workers to attain the objectives of the enterprise.  It forms the basis of a worker’s commitment and inclination to satisfy the manager and the objectives of the enterprise by doing good work.  A leader continuously tries to get his or her subordinates to work towards the attainment of the goals and objectives of the business.  In the final instance, however, it is the subordinate who must be motivated to deliver good work.  Not all those factors that motivate a person are, however, within the reach of the manager.  The basis of motivation is essentially the worker’s efforts to satisfy his or her personal needs, by continuous useful inputs and hard work for the enterprise.
